dawned cold and bright as missionaries from around the mission drove for hours
to get to the Birmingham Temple for the first of eight sessions between Tuesday and Friday. Although cold outside, the warmth of The
Lord’s House filled each of the missionaries of the Alabama Birmingham Mission
as they performed those works of great eternal significance. Temple Ordinance Workers willingly opened the
temple and served during the day – in a temple where most sessions are held at
night – in addition to their regular assignments. Missionaries emerge with joy and replenished
energy to further the work to which they have been called.
The sheer size of the Mission –
almost 300 missionaries – meant dividing the mission into groups that could be
accommodated by our moderately-sized temple, with seating limited to 50 for
each session. Organizing virtually all
aspects of the eight different sessions, fell to the Assistants to the
President. Professional logisticians and
planners could not have done better than our AP’s – especially with the
exceptional help from the Zone Leaders, District Leaders and Sister Trainers
throughout the mission. What terrific
young people The Lord has raised up for this time and place!
