About the Blog Moderator

Hi! My name is Sister Austin, and I'm a member of the Huntsville Alabama Stake. At the end of 2013, the Huntsville Alabama Stake Presidency asked me to create and maintain a blog of mission information for the Alabama Birmingham Mission.   Ever wonder what it's like to be a missionary in the Alabama Birmingham Mission? Here's your chance to find out!

The purpose of this blog is to inform missionaries, family, friends, and any others interested about the workings of the mission.   While I am compiling information and posting pictures and such, most of the content comes from the mission itself- the mission Presidency and others called to work in the mission.  While all of these people are involved in the creation of this blog, I'd like to emphasize that this is not an official product of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  It is an act of service to all those who are serving in the mission.

I have an 8 year old son, so I can only imagine how hard it must be to let your children travel to someplace new and strange. I hope that this blog will help ease some of your concerns. Your missionary is in very good hands! Thank you for sharing them with the Alabama Birmingham Mission area. They are doing great work!!! If you have any questions about this blog or the mission, please email me at ALBirminghamMissionHomeBlog@gmail.com and I'll do my best to answer them or pass them along to those in the mission who can.

  5. I think this is so wonderful! I did not have this opportunity with my other 4 sons and I feel closer to my missionary and the work of the Lord. Thank you so much for the idea and the work put forth to create and manage it. I know the work will move forward faster than ever with the new mandate and these opportunities will make the memories much sweeter. Thank you ever so much.

  7. You all are very welcome! I love working on the blog as I feel like I'm really getting to know the missionaries now, much more than a normal member would interact with them (seeing the pictures of them at their Zone meetings, etc). But I can't take all of the credit- about 95% of the content comes from the Mission Presidency! They really love your sons and daughters and want the best for them. I hope that comes across in the blog!

  11. Thank you Sister Austin for the time you put in to maintaining this blog. I'm so excited to see where my son, Elder Virtue will be reporting in a few weeks. As he serves it will be wonderful to have a glimpse of the mission, view pictures and receive information. What a wonderful idea. It will be wonderful to better share in his experience, and to see how the gospel is going forth in Alabama.

  12. I was just recently called to this mission and I report to the MTC April 30th, so I will be in the area in May! This blog has made me even more excited to serve the people of Alabama, it's cool to see a little of what it's going to be like. And it's nice to know that when I am there, my family will also get to see what it's like. I'm so grateful for you, and the time and effort you put in to this blog, Sister Austin!

  16. Hi Sister Austin,

I'm looking for the person who shot this photo (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OklfG6HgpkQ/UsnJjO-iF3I/AAAAAAAAAi8/jHR5kwTP504/s1600/huntsville.jpg) on your page. Is that you? I'm interested in finding a high resolution original copy of the photo to potentially print for a poster for my house. Thanks!

    1. Hi! It wasn't me, although that is a fairly regular shot from around Huntsville that has been duplicated many times. The sight of the Saturn V rocket at the Space and Rocket Center is something many people drive past everyday and is considered something of a landmark here :) You can do a quick Google search and find dozens of similar images. There are some sites that offer poster quality prints of it, but those do have a price associated with them and I hesitate to post any sort of commercial link here. So going back to Google, if you google phrases such as Huntsville Saturn V or Huntsville Space and Rocket Center Saturn V, you'll get similar results and hopefully will find a photo that will meet your needs. Thanks for reading!
